Dragon Mine Expansion
The Dragon Mine is located in the Tintic District of North Central Utah, approximately 60 miles southwest of Salt Lake City. The Dragon was originally an iron ore mine and subsequently mined for halloysite, which originally was used as a fluid cracking catalyst for the petroleum industry. Today halloysite is used in plastics, as a flame retardant and in other applications. The Dragon Mine represents one of the largest known deposits of halloysite in the world, contains a high-quality iron oxide pigment suitable for many markets as well as contains other clay minerals. In 2020, Provo Mining & Construction, Inc. was awarded the underground expansion project for the Dragon Mine.
